Dear readers,

Welcome to the 12th issue of the InPayments magazine! I would like to thank you once again for coming back to us issue after issue and trusting us to bring you the latest news and insights.

You should always start with your biggest news and we certainly do: as of January 2019, the Concardis Payment Group has merged with Nets A/S, a market leader in the Nordic payments industry. We here at Mercury Processing Services International, a part of Concardis Payment Group, are all very excited and are thrilled to be doing our part and participating in the innovations this merger will bring to the EU payments industry.

But that's not all. We've made some upgrades to our data centers, of which you can read more in the pages that follow. We also bring you the latest on our mobile wallet and mPOS solution and if you've heard Google Pay is now live in Slovakia, you haven't been lied to: VÚB Bank has made that big and important step.

Our other news includes mergers and acquisitions and the latest on WhatsApp's foray into payments. We've taken a close look at 2018 and outlined what we believe will be the most important trends of 2019,

This includes the continuous evolution of ATM 2.0, the ongoing revolution of POS and what just might be the most significant developing technology: quantum computing.

With GDPR and PSD2 marking not only 2018 but also the year ahead of us and probably more, we aimed to provide a comprehensive look at the various aspects of EU regulations and made this our feature theme. This involved a deep dive into PSD2, the consideration of dynamic currency conversion as well as the impact Brexit may have on EU payments, and the increasing role of biometrics.

And with cryptocurrencies on the rise in this brave new payments world, we wondered: how are they being regulated and will there be a push for new regulations or a concentrated attempt to place them under existing ones?

There is no doubt the future holds changes and we are glad to be able to do our small part in starting the conversation with each InPayments issue.

We are sure you will enjoy reading all of this and more in our new issue, so take your hot beverage of choice and read on.
